Police on Sunday sent the two mobile phones of deceased BJD Zilla Parishad (ZP) member Dharmendra Sahoo for forensic examination at the State Forensic Laboratory (SFL).
Cops had recovered the two phones near Sahoo’s residence in Bhubaneswar with the help of a dog team from a field near his house on Saturday.
The cellphone evidence is expected to unravel the mystery behind Sahoo’s death as hours before his death he had mentioned that some video clips were stored in the two cellphones.
Meanwhile, the city’s DCP, Prateek Singh, said that in addition to the two mobile phones, CCTV near the location had also been seized. “He will be sent for forensic examination after submission to the magistrate. Our investigation is ongoing,” he added.
Police said a cook, who lives on the first floor of Sahoo’s home, is under their scanner and will be questioned about the incident.
The BJD leader was found hanged at his residence in Sishupalgarh, on the outskirts of the city. He was a member of ZP Zone 11 in Nimapara.
About four hours before his death, Sahoo had shared a post on social media in which he mentioned video clips stored in the two cellphones. This has created suspicions in the minds of many about the content of the videos. “All the videos are in my two cell phones. Please bring all these to public light,” Sahoo had written to Odia.
It was earlier reported that Sahoo attempted suicide and was taken to a private hospital in critical condition. He then returned to his residence after recovering.
The BJP has alleged the role of public school and Mass minister and local MP Samir Ranjan Dash in the case. But responding to the allegations, Dash said: ‘I have no knowledge of the matter. I can only talk about it after I understand the case.
