Madurai: No less than 51 stolen or missing mobile phones found and found by Madurai rural cyber crime police in the district over the past month, were handed over to their owners on Saturday by Madurai (SP) District Police Superintendent R Shiva Prasad.
On the instructions of the SP, the Rural Cybercrime Police investigated cases of stolen/missing mobile phones filed in all police stations in Madurai district in the past two weeks. A total of 51 stolen mobile phones worth Rs 4.67 lakh were recovered and returned to their owners on Saturday. Since March 2021, up to 777 mobile phones worth more than Rs 1.08 crore have been recovered by rural cyber crime police. In online fraud cases over the past month involving fraudsters impersonating bank officials and obtaining details of bank accounts and victims of looting, police recovered and returned more than Rs 1.60 lakh to owners. As much as more than Rs 28.25 lakh in various online fraud cases since March 2021 have been recovered and returned to owners by the police.
Meanwhile, the SP urged the public to be more vigilant against such frauds and not to divulge any personal information, including bank account number, CVV and OTP.
